Selaginella uncinata - Blue Spikemoss - Peacock Fern
Selaginella uncinata, also called Peacock Fern or Blue Spikemoss, is a magical little plant with a metallic blue-green shimmer that changes with the light. It looks like a delicate woodland fern but grows like a mossy groundcover — perfect for terrariums, steamy bathrooms, or adding a lush vibe to shaded shelves. It’s a humidity queen and thrives in that soft, misty kind of glow.
Plant Care
Light:
Prefers low to medium indirect light. Too much direct sun will scorch its delicate fronds and fade its peacock shimmer.
Watering:
Keep evenly moist at all times — it doesn’t like to dry out. Filtered or rainwater is best to avoid crispy tips.
Temperature:
Thrives in 18–24°C, and doesn’t like to dip below 15°C. Loves warmth and humidity.
Potting:
Our Thirst Trap mix is the perfect base — moisture-retentive and lush, just how this plant likes it.
Hot tips:
Ideal for terrariums or enclosed containers. Loves humidity, so mist gently or sit the pot on a pebble tray. Avoid letting it dry out, even briefly — it will sulk dramatically.
