Begonia Masoniana - Iron Cross Begonia
Begonia masoniana, commonly known as the Iron Cross Begonia, is an absolute show-off. Its puckered, hairy leaves are lime green with a bold chocolate-brown cross in the centre — like a little medieval shield for your windowsill. This begonia is all about drama and texture, and it’s surprisingly easy to please if you give it the right spot.
Plant Care
Light:
Loves bright, indirect light. Direct sun will crisp those gorgeous leaves, but too little and the cross might fade.
Watering:
Keep the soil lightly moist, but don’t let it sit wet. Let the top few centimetres dry out before watering again. Avoid getting the leaves wet — bottom watering is your friend!
Temperature:
Happy in 18–24°C. Keep away from cold draughts and definitely above 15°C.
Potting:
Thrives in our A Sandy Loam mix — fast-draining and just the right balance to avoid soggy roots.
Hot tips:
Loves humidity but not misting — too much moisture on the leaves = trouble. Place on a pebble tray or near other plants to boost humidity without the drama.
