Drosera capensis ‘Alba’ – Cape Sundew (Green & White Form)
Drosera capensis ‘Alba’ is the elegant green-and-white twist on the classic Cape Sundew. With slender lime-green leaves and delicate white blooms, this carnivorous cutie is a fruit fly’s worst nightmare — and a plant lover’s dream. It grows into a lush, slightly bushy rosette and is famously easy to care for, making it a perfect entry point into the world of bug-eating plants. Pop it on a sunny windowsill and enjoy year-round drama — it’ll even shrug off the odd light frost! For double the weird-and-wonderful, pair it with the red form for a sundew showcase.
Plant Care
Light:
Loves bright light and full sun indoors. A sunny windowsill is ideal year-round.
Watering:
Keep soil constantly damp with rainwater or distilled water. Never let it dry out. Avoid tap water — these carnivores are sensitive to mineral build-up.
Temperature:
Thrives at 15–25°C but can tolerate brief dips close to freezing. No need to panic if it catches a chill.
Potting: I find that carnivorous plants are best in sphagnum moss only.
Hot tips:
No misting, no feeding, no fertiliser — just light, water, and the occasional bug. The sticky dew on the leaves does the rest. Traps don’t need touching (tempting though it is!).
