Pinguicula weser - Cerise Blooming Butterwort
This subtropical Pinguicula hybrid is a little rosette superstar — fleshy, compact, and known for bursting into clusters of bright cerise-pink flowers. Throughout the growing season, it’s a moisture-loving fly-catcher. Come winter, it quietly tucks into a smaller resting form, needing just a bit of a breather (don’t we all?). Perfect for a north-facing windowsill or anywhere that’s bright but out of harsh sunlight, it’s both low-fuss and highly rewarding.
Plant Care
Light: Bright indirect light or light shade is ideal. A north-facing windowsill is spot-on. Avoid direct sun, especially in summer, to keep the leaves from scorching.
Watering:
Spring–autumn: Keep a shallow tray of rainwater topped up (about 2cm deep). Winter: let it dry slightly between light waterings to support dormancy and compact rosette growth.
Temperature:
Prefers 18–24°C during active growth. Keep above 7°C in winter to avoid cold stress.
Potting: I find that carnivorous plants faire best in sphagnum moss only.
Hot tips:
No misting, no fertiliser, no tap water. Keep it simple, and let this carnivore work its magic on fungus gnats and tiny flies. If it shrinks in winter, it’s just having a nap — don’t panic.
