Sarracenia x psittacina × leucophylla – Parrot Pitcher Plant Hybrid
This striking hybrid pitcher plant, born from Sarracenia psittacina and Sarracenia leucophylla, is a showstopper with its bold colour contrast, veined hoods, and curvaceous calyx-like shape. A compact and eye-catching carnivore, it thrives in bright, sunny spots — perfect for south-facing windows or sunny shelves indoors. Its intricate traps are designed to lure and digest unsuspecting insects, offering natural pest control with botanical flair.
Plant Care
Light:
Thrives in full sun. Indoors, aim for a bright, south-facing windowsill or grow under strong artificial lighting.
Watering:
Keep soil consistently moist with rainwater or distilled water. Never use tap water — minerals can damage roots.
Temperature:
Prefers 15–25°C in active growth. Protect from freezing. Can enjoy a cool dormancy in winter (around 5–10°C).
Potting: I find that carnivorous plants are best in sphagnum moss only.
Hot tips:
No feeding, misting, or fertiliser needed — it feeds itself. In winter, allow it to rest naturally with cooler temps and less growth.
Pet Friendly: Technically yes, but not advised for curious pets who might poke at the traps. 🐾
