With its deep green leaves and bright orange blooms, Calathea crocata brings something a little different to the prayer plant family. Its wavy foliage has reddish-purple undersides, while the upright orange flower bracts give it its common name: the Eternal Flame plant.
Give it a warm spot with filtered light and a little extra humidity, and it’ll make a striking addition to your indoor jungle. The flowers won’t last forever, but the foliage is lovely in its own right.
Plant Care
Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light but tolerates lower light. Avoid direct sun which can fade or scorch its patterned leaves.
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Use rain, distilled, or filtered water as Calatheas are sensitive to tap water.
Temperature: Loves 18–27°C. Keep above 15°C and away from draughts.
Potting: Grows best in our Thirst Trap mix — moisture-retentive yet airy for healthy roots.
Hot tips: Boost humidity with a pebble tray or humidifier (no misting needed). Trim any tired leaves to keep it looking fresh.
