A proper little character of a fern, Humata tyermannii has soft, finely divided green fronds and wonderfully fuzzy rhizomes that gradually creep over the surface of the compost. Those fluffy “rabbit’s feet” are part of the appeal, so this is one to keep in a shallow pot, on a shelf, or in a hanging planter where they can be seen.
It has a softer, more delicate look than many houseplants but is pleasingly unfussy once it has settled in. A lovely choice for a bright bathroom, kitchen, or any spot with gentle light and a little extra humidity. Also sold as Davallia tyermannii.
Plant Care
Light:Bright indirect light to low light is best for this fuzzy fern. Avoid direct sun as it can burn its fronds.
Watering: This plant prefers to stay moist but is one of the more tolerant species that won't completely lose the plot if you forget to water it for a day.
Temperature:18-24°C is ideal. Be sure not to let it go below 10°C and avoid cold drafts.
Potting: A well-draining moisture retaining mix is ideal. Our Thirst Trap mix fits the bill.
Hot tips:Rabbit’s Foot Ferns are slow-growing and their wandering rhizomes are meant to spill over the edge of the pot — it’s not a sign that they need repotting straight away.
