A brilliantly weird trailing cactus with long, golden-spined stems that tumble over the edge of its pot as it grows. The soft-looking golden spines give it an almost fuzzy appearance, while mature plants can produce spectacular bright pink-orange flowers.
Golden Rat Tail Cactus is especially good displayed somewhere its stems have room to trail — think a high shelf, plant stand or hanging planter. With plenty of bright light, it's an easy-going cactus that gets better and more dramatic with age.
Light: Full Sun. Cacti need bright light to survive. My rule of thumb is always to let them have a view of the sky. The best bet is a sunny windowsill.
Watering: These plants are drought tolerant. Only water when the soil completely dries out, as overwatering can quickly kill these plants. Cut way back on watering in winter.
Temperature: 5-30°C is a good range, but this plant can tolerate down to -2C for short spells if kept dry.
Potting: A well-draining mix is ideal for this plant. Our Savvy Succa would be a great fit.
Hot tips: This is not a fan of humidity, so avoid those steamy bathrooms.
Pet Friendly: No
