Cryptanthus zonatus, commonly known as the Zebra Earth Star, is a beautifully graphic little bromeliad with dark green, banded leaves arranged in a low, star-shaped rosette. It stays compact but has plenty of personality—perfect for a bright shelf, terrarium-style display, or anywhere you want a plant that feels a little bit different.
Plant Care
Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. A little gentle morning sun can help its banding stay bold, but avoid harsh afternoon rays.
Watering: Water lightly when the top of the compost has dried. Keep it just moist rather than wet, and avoid leaving it sitting in water.
Temperature: Happiest between 18–27°C. Keep it warm and away from cold draughts.
Potting: Our Airy Aroid mix is ideal—light and moisture-retentive without becoming heavy around the roots.
Hot tips: This low-growing bromeliad loves a little humidity, making it a great choice for a bright bathroom or terrarium-style setup. It grows slowly, so give it time and enjoy the pattern.
