Product details

A useful little soil mix upgrade made from fine particles of English hardwood charcoal. Horticultural charcoal, also known as biochar, helps create a lighter, airier mix while its porous structure can hold moisture and nutrients around plant roots.

It’s particularly handy for custom houseplant mixes, terrariums and pots that need a little extra airflow. Add it alongside ingredients such as coir, bark, perlite and grit to create a more open, balanced growing medium.

This biochar is naturally alkaline, with a pH of around 8–9, and contains small amounts of nutrients including potassium, phosphorus and magnesium.

How to use: Mix approximately 1 part horticultural charcoal to 10 parts soil. Use a little less for plants that prefer more acidic soil.

Perfect for: DIY soil mixes, terrariums, pot plants, hanging baskets and as a light top dressing.

Size: Sold in 500g, 1-litre, and 3-litre volume units.
