Anisodontea 'Cap Pink Pearl', commonly known as Cape Mallow, is a graceful flowering shrub admired for its abundance of soft pink, hibiscus-like blooms that appear over an exceptionally long season. Its airy growth habit and delicate flowers bring a relaxed, cottage-garden feel to patios, mixed borders, and large containers. Flowering from late spring well into autumn, this South African native is a magnet for pollinators and thrives in warm, sheltered positions with plenty of sunshine. Although perennial, it benefits from winter protection in colder areas of the UK.
Plant Care
Position: Full sun in a warm, sheltered location. Ideal for south- or west-facing gardens, patios, and courtyards.
Watering: Water regularly during the growing season, particularly when grown in containers. Allow the top layer of compost to dry slightly between waterings, but avoid prolonged drought.
Hardiness: Tender perennial. Protect from frost and temperatures below 0°C. In colder regions, move container-grown plants to a frost-free location over winter.
Hot Tips: Light pruning after flowering will encourage bushier growth and help maintain a neat shape. Pair with salvias, gaura, and ornamental grasses for a soft, romantic planting scheme. In mild areas, a sheltered wall can help improve winter survival outdoors.
