Calathea Warscewiczii - jungle velvet
Calathea warscewiczii, also known as the Jungle Velvet Calathea, brings serious drama with its velvety deep green leaves and bold pale veining. Flip those leaves over and you'll find rich purple undersides — this plant is a full-on mood. Native to Central America and perfect for shady corners, it thrives with a bit of humidity and a lot of admiration.
Plant Care
Light:
Loves bright, indirect light but handles lower light levels too. Keep out of direct sun — it’ll crisp those velvety leaves.
Watering:
Keep the soil lightly moist, but not soggy. Avoid tap water if possible — filtered or rainwater is best.
Temperature:
Happiest between 18–26°C, and sensitive to cold. Keep above 16°C and away from draughts or radiators.
Potting:
Loves our Thirst Trap mix — moisture-retentive and breathable, it’s perfect for humidity lovers like this.
Hot tips:
Skip the misting — it does more harm than good. Boost humidity with a pebble tray or by grouping plants together. Leaves may fold up at night — that’s just bedtime.
