Calceolaria Mix, also known as Lady’s Slipper or Lady’s Purse, is a cheerful little flowering plant grown for its unusual pouch-shaped blooms in a mix of bright colours. The flowers look almost like tiny slippers or purses, giving it plenty of charm and making it a real conversation starter in spring and early summer displays. It’s ideal for adding a pop of colour to pots, window boxes, or sheltered garden beds.
Position: best in bright, indirect light or partial shade, in moist but well-drained soil. Prefers a sheltered spot out of harsh midday sun.
Hardiness: usually grown as a tender bedding plant in the UK. Best treated as an annual or short-lived seasonal plant, as it is not frost hardy.
Hot Tips: keep compost evenly moist but not soggy, and deadhead faded flowers to help prolong blooming. Great for spring containers and gifting, especially where you want something a bit quirky and unusual.
