Description
Colmanara Orchids are spectacular intergeneric orchids, grown for their sprays of intricate, brightly coloured flowers. Their blooms often feature rich reds, burgundy, pink, yellow and cream with spots, markings and contrasting patterns that make each variety feel a little different. Despite their exotic appearance, Colmanara are relatively straightforward orchids to grow at home and can flower for several weeks at a time.
Plant Care
Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. A little gentle morning or evening sun is fine, but avoid strong midday sunlight.
Watering: Water thoroughly when the potting mix is approaching dry, allowing excess water to drain away completely. Avoid leaving the roots sitting in water.
Temperature: Happy in normal household temperatures, ideally around 15–24°C. Slightly cooler nighttime temperatures can help encourage flowering.
Potting: Grow in a free-draining orchid bark mix that allows plenty of airflow around the roots. Repot when the bark begins to break down or the plant becomes overcrowded.
Hot Tips: Once flowering has finished, cut the spent flower spike back and continue caring for the foliage and pseudobulbs. New growth produces the next flowering stems, so don't remove healthy old pseudobulbs – they store water and energy for the plant.
