Diascia 'Flying Colours Upright Orange', commonly known as Twinspur, is a cheerful bedding plant grown for its masses of vibrant orange flowers and neat, upright habit. Flowering continuously from late spring through to the first frosts, it brings long-lasting colour to patio containers, hanging baskets, window boxes, and the front of sunny borders. Its nectar-rich blooms are a welcome source of food for bees and other pollinators, making it a wonderful addition to wildlife-friendly gardens. Although technically a tender perennial, it is most often grown as an annual in UK gardens.
Plant Care
Position: Full sun to partial shade in a sheltered position. Best flowering occurs in a sunny spot with protection from strong winds.
Watering: Keep compost or soil consistently moist but well-drained. Container-grown plants may require more frequent watering during warm weather.
Hardiness: Tender perennial. Not frost hardy and typically grown as an annual in the UK.
Hot Tips: Deadhead regularly to encourage continuous flowering throughout the season. Ideal for mixed container displays, where it pairs beautifully with trailing lobelia, bacopa, calibrachoa, and other summer bedding plants. Feed every 1–2 weeks with a high-potash fertiliser to keep plants blooming at their best.
