Description
Fritillaria imperialis ‘Aurora’ – Crown Imperial Bulb
A spectacular spring-flowering bulb with tall stems topped by a crown of vivid orange, bell-shaped flowers and a dramatic tuft of green leaves. Growing up to around 90cm tall, ‘Aurora’ creates a bold, architectural focal point in borders and large containers.
Plant Care
Position: Full sun in fertile, well-drained soil. Choose a sheltered position away from strong winds.
Hardiness: Fully hardy in the UK, but the bulbs dislike cold, waterlogged soil.
Hot Tips: Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering so it can feed the bulb for next year. Crown Imperials prefer to remain undisturbed once established. Wear gloves when handling, as the bulbs may irritate skin.
Planting Instructions
Plant outdoors during autumn, before the ground becomes frozen.
- Dig a hole approximately 15–20cm deep.
- Improve heavy soil with horticultural grit to provide good drainage.
- Place the bulb slightly on its side so water cannot collect in its central hollow and cause rot.
- Space bulbs approximately 20–25cm apart.
- Cover with soil and water well after planting.
- For containers, choose a large pot with drainage holes and use free-draining compost.
Please note: Bulbs are seasonal products. The bulb you receive will be dormant and ready for planting.
