Magnolia stellata ‘Royal Star’ is a beautiful early-flowering magnolia known for its elegant star-shaped blooms. In early spring, bare branches become covered in large, pure white flowers made up of many slender petals, creating a soft cloud of blossom before the leaves emerge. This compact deciduous tree is perfect for smaller gardens where you want a striking seasonal focal point.
Plant Care Position: full sun to partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil – best planted somewhere sheltered from strong winds
Hardiness: fully hardy deciduous tree in the UK (down to around -20°C)
Hot Tips: Magnolias prefer slightly acidic to neutral soil and dislike being moved once established, so choose the planting spot carefully. Mulch annually to retain moisture and protect shallow roots. Late frosts can occasionally damage early flowers, so a sheltered position is ideal.
