About this plant

Nephrolepis ‘Macho’, often called the Macho Fern, is all lush drama: broad, arching fronds with a fuller, more architectural look than a classic Boston fern. It is brilliant for filling an empty corner, adding softness to a bright bathroom, or making a real statement in a large pot.

Plant Care

Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. It can cope with softer light, but growth will be slower and the fronds less full. Keep out of strong direct sun.


Watering: Keep the compost evenly moist, but never waterlogged. Do not let it dry out completely—this fern will let you know with crispy frond tips.


Temperature: Best between 18–26°C. Keep away from radiators, cold draughts and sudden temperature swings.


Potting: Our Thirst Trap mix is ideal—moisture-retentive without becoming heavy, helping fern roots stay comfortably hydrated.


Hot tips: Humidity is your friend. A bright bathroom is perfect, or group it with other plants to create a more humid little microclimate. 

Pet Friendly: Yes – generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.
