Description
Also known as the Golden Ball Cactus, this bright, sunny species has gone through a few name changes over the years. Once listed as Eriocactus leninghausii, it’s now officially classified as Parodia leninghausii — but both names refer to the same iconic plant. Its soft golden spines, ribbed columnar shape, and cheerful summer blooms make it a standout in any cactus collection.
Plant Care
Light: Loves bright light and full sun. Place in the brightest spot you have — a sunny window or warm greenhouse is ideal.
Watering: These plants are drought tolerant. Only water when the soil completely dries out, as overwatering can quickly kill these plants. Cut way back on watering in winter, if at all November-March.
Temperature: Can survive down to 5 °C or even -4 °C (according to some sources) IF kept dry during cold spells. Wont tolerate extended cold. The key here is to keep it bone dry during the cold.
Potting: A well-draining mix is ideal for this plant. Our Savvy Succa would be a great fit.
Hot tips: Rotate the pot every few weeks for even growth.
Pet Friendly: Yes
