Begonia sizemoreae (syn. longiciliata) is a rare and highly collectible species admired for its deeply textured, almost quilted foliage and rich colour contrast. Its small, sculptural green leaves feature pronounced ridges and fine surface detail, while the undersides reveal a warm reddish tone that adds depth and visual interest.
Also known botanically as Begonia longiciliata, this species stays naturally compact, making it especially well suited to terrariums, plant cabinets, or smaller indoor spaces with higher humidity. Its unusual texture and refined growth habit make it a standout choice for collectors and anyone drawn to more unusual foliage plants.
Na
tive to Southeast Asia, this begonia thrives in bright indirect light with gentle, consistent moisture and higher humidity, where it will slowly form a dense, elegant cluster.
Plant Care
Light:
Loves bright, indirect light. Direct sun will crisp those gorgeous leaves, but too little and the cross might fade.
Watering:
Keep the soil lightly moist, but don’t let it sit wet. Let the top few centimetres dry out before watering again. Avoid getting the leaves wet — bottom watering is your friend!
Temperature:
Happy in 18–24°C. Keep away from cold draughts and definitely above 15°C.
Potting:
Thrives in our A Sandy Loam mix — fast-draining and just the right balance to avoid soggy roots.
Hot tips:
Loves humidity but not misting — too much moisture on the leaves = trouble. Place on a pebble tray or near other plants to boost humidity without the drama. A nice one for a Terrarium
