Aloe vera, also known as Aloe barbadensis miller, is a classic, easy-care succulent loved for its fleshy, spiky green leaves filled with soothing gel. Both practical and beautiful, this plant has been used for centuries for its calming, skin-soothing properties, making it a staple for sunny homes and plant lovers alike.
With its sculptural form and low-maintenance nature, Aloe vera is perfect for windowsills, bright shelves, or as part of a drought-tolerant plant collection. A great choice for beginners or anyone looking for a plant that thrives on a bit of neglect.
Plant Care
Light: Aloe needs at least 6 hours a day of bright light to survive. My rule of thumb is to always let them have a view of the sky. The best bet is a sunny windowsill but direct blaring sun may actually give your aloe a sunburn.
Watering: These plants are drought tolerant. Only water when the soil appears very dry, as overwatering can quickly kill these plants. Cut way back on watering in the winter and only water when your plant puckers.
Temperature: 13-27°C is the ideal range for these pants.
Potting: A well-draining mix is ideal for this plant. Our Savvy Succa would be a great fit.
Hot tips: This variety is safe to use on the skin to help with sunburns, cuts etc., but not all aloe species are good to use topically.
Pet Friendly: Nope
