Chamaedorea elegans, better known as the Parlour Palm, is the queen of low-maintenance houseplants. With soft, feathery fronds and a gentle upright habit, this classic Victorian favourite brings calm, graceful vibes to any space. It’s slow-growing, shade-loving, and completely content in corners where fussier plants might sulk. Bonus: it’s totally pet safe!
Plant Care Light: Thrives in low to bright indirect light. No need for sunbathing — this one’s happy in corners or away from windows.
Watering: Water when the top few centimetres of soil feel dry. Likes light moisture but hates soggy roots — think “moist but not marshy.”
Temperature: Enjoys 18–26°C, and should be kept above 12°C. Tolerates temperature fluctuations fairly well.
Potting: Perfect in our A Sandy Loam mix — airy, well-draining, and balanced for even, healthy growth.
Hot tips: Dust the leaves occasionally to keep them breathing happy. This palm is slow-growing, so don’t overpot or overfeed. A once-a-month liquid feed in spring/summer is plenty.
