Epiphyllum Anguliger - Fishbone Cacti
The Fishbone Cactus (Epiphyllum anguliger) is a striking jungle cactus with zig-zag foliage that looks just like a fish skeleton. Native to Mexico, it’s a quirky, architectural houseplant that thrives in bright indirect light. In the right conditions, it can even reward you with night-blooming, scented flowers.
Plant Care
Light: Bright indirect light. Too much direct sun, and you risk scorching the leaves. Can handle the morning sun (think East-facing window), but the afternoon sun may be too much for this beauty.
Watering: Water when the top few centimetres of soil feel dry. Unlike desert cacti, it enjoys a bit more moisture but still dislikes sitting in soggy soil.
Temperature: 15-28C is ideal.
Potting: These plants like a chunky mix, similar to their natural habitat. Our Airy Aroid is a great choice for this species. Or we sometimes like to mix our 1 part airy ariod to 1 part super chonk in order to minimise the frequency of watering needed.
Hot tips: This beauty flowers! But its a special treat when it does as the blooms only last for 24 hours and are only fully open at night.
