About this plant

Pinguicula 'Weser' is one of the most popular and rewarding carnivorous plants, loved for its compact rosette of colourful leaves and beautiful pink flowers. A hybrid between Pinguicula ehlersiae and Pinguicula moranensis, it combines easy care with vibrant colouration, often developing pink to reddish tones when grown in bright light. Its sticky leaves act like natural flypaper, trapping fungus gnats and other small insects, making it both an attractive houseplant and a helpful companion for indoor plant collections.

Plant Care

Light
Bright indirect light to a few hours of gentle direct sun. Strong light encourages compact growth and enhances the pink colouration of the leaves.

Watering
Keep the growing medium lightly moist using rainwater, distilled water, or reverse osmosis water. During winter, when the plant produces its succulent resting leaves, reduce watering and allow the compost to become slightly drier between waterings.

Temperature
Prefers temperatures between 15–30°C and adapts well to typical household conditions.

Potting
Use a free-draining carnivorous plant mix. Mexican Butterworts thrive in mineral-rich substrates containing pumice, perlite, grit, and sand. Avoid fertilisers and standard houseplant composts.

Hot Tips
An excellent choice for helping control fungus gnats around houseplants. In bright conditions, the leaves can develop beautiful pink and red tones. During winter, the plant naturally transitions into a succulent-like growth phase with smaller, thicker leaves. This is completely normal and helps it cope with drier conditions.

Pet Friendly
Generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.
