Carludovica palmata ‘Jungle Drum’ – Tropical Fan Palm (Young Plant ID Pending)
This plant came in with no ID, so we are guessing it's a Carludovica palmata ‘Jungle Drum’, also called the Panama Hat Plant or Jungle Drum Palm. It is a lush, tropical foliage plant with bold, pleated fan-like leaves that add instant rainforest vibes to your space. While we believe this beauty is Carludovica palmata, it’s still a young plant — so there’s a little mystery as it matures! Either way, you’re getting a dramatic, structural stunner that brings exotic charm indoors or onto a warm, sheltered patio.
Plant Care
Light:
Thrives in bright, indirect light, tolerating some gentle morning or late afternoon sun. Avoid harsh midday rays to prevent leaf scorch.
Watering:
Keep the soil evenly moist, letting the top couple of centimetres dry between waterings. Don’t let it sit soggy for too long.
Temperature:
Loves warmth and humidity — keep between 18–28°C, and don’t allow it to drop below 12°C. Ideal for bathrooms or tropical-feel rooms.
Potting:
Best grown in our A Sandy Loam mix — it holds just enough moisture while allowing good drainage for healthy roots.
Hot tips:
This plant loves humidity, so mist occasionally or place near a humidifier. As it matures, those pleated fan leaves will spread wide, making it a real statement piece.
