Caryota Mitis - fishtail palm

With dramatic, jagged leaflets that resemble a fishtail, Caryota mitis—also known as the Fishtail Palm—brings an untamed tropical feel to any space. This clump-forming palm is fast-growing and lush, with a bold silhouette that makes it ideal for corners or larger planters. It’s a great way to add volume and vertical interest indoors.

Plant Care 

Light: Thrives in bright indirect light. Can tolerate some gentle morning sun, but avoid harsh midday rays.

Watering: Allow the top two inches of soil to dry out between watering, or about once a week in summer and once every two weeks in winter. This plant should be slightly too dry rather than soaked, so check that soil first, and don't let it sit in water. Try using rainwater or filtered water, as these plants can be sensitive. 

Temperature: 15-24°C is ideal for these, but don't let it go below 10°C. These babies prefer a warm room with no drafts. 

Potting: A well-draining mix is great for these. Our A Sandy Loam is a perfect fit. 

Hot tips:  Although they can tolerate average room humidity. A bit of humidity will greatly increase your plants' happiness, so place them in a bathroom on a pebble tray or with plant friends.

Pet Friendly: YES, KIND OF! the fruits are toxic to pets, but in the home environment, its highly unlikely to fruit.
